Winter weather is officially upon us, which means dry skin, wind-burned cheeks and frizzy hair. The season of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer also strikes a particularly resonant chord for me since I am, unfortunately, particularly susceptible to redness on my air-breather during the colder months. Despite my best efforts, the coloration often lasts throughout the day. Just when I thought my rouge woes would know no end, I recently came across a ridiculously effective product from French cosmetics brand MAKE UP FOR EVER. Part of their STEP 1 line, which is comprised of a range of skin equalizers, the label’s Redness Correcting Primer is a godsend in the form of a gorgeous green goop. If you feel my grief here, read on.
WHAT IS IT: MAKE UP FOR EVER Redness Correcting Primer
WHY IT’S WORTH THE HYPE: MAKE UP FOR EVER was first established in 1984 by husband and wife duo, Dany Sanz and Jacques Waneph. The company was then acquired by LVMH in 1999 after it experienced much success. Since then, the makeup imprint has become a commanding force within the world of beauty. Although I haven’t tried out many of the brand’s other products, it’s undeniable that they’re definitely doing something right — stocked by such retail giants as Sephora and Lane Crawford, MAKE UP FOR EVER is trusted by many for its premium products.
If you remember your elementary school art classes, you may recall that red and green are complementary colors — this means that when the two tones are combined, they cancel each other out. With that in mind, one can understand how the correcting primer works. What I usually do is apply a pea-sized amount of product over my nose (you can also use on other parts of your face where you experience redness). I then even out the distribution with a makeup sponge. Finally, add your favorite concealer on top (mine is the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer) and distribute once again with a sponge. Et voilà, Rudolph no more.
WHERE TO FIND IT: Grab a tube of the Redness Correcting Primer over at MAKE UP FOR EVER’s web store for $37 USD.
