Brittany Sky Talks Music, Style and Being a Woman in the Industry
The DJ gets cozy with us in New Balance just before one of her gigs.
For any woman working in a male-dominated field, it seems she has to work twice as hard to be respected. Brittany Sky knows this firsthand — and despite only taking spinning seriously within the last few years, her talent’s been proven. Not just anyone is capable of opening for Future or touring with CeeLo Green. The multi-faceted DJ’s done her due diligence to earn every hyphen: when she’s not behind the turntables, she’s exercising her influence in campaigns with your favorite brands, working as a true creative on various projects, or even building her presence as a beauty blogger (and she’ll be adding producer to this list soon).
But music is where Brittany always finds herself again. It’s therapeutic and a means of self-expression, just like her style. DJing and bouncing back and forth between New York and Los Angeles requires comfort — and she has the cozy-girl aesthetic down to a ‘T.’ Hours ahead of a gig, Brittany found time to kick back with HYPEBAE in her coziest New Balance gear to chat about the impact music has made on her, especially as a native New Yorker, and the legacy she’s hoping to create for herself. Check out our convo up top.
