Celine's 2017 Spring/Summer Collection Took Inspiration From Yves Klein's Naked Blue Models
The French artist’s “living brush” models are reimagined with Phoebe Philo.
Phoebe Philo’s Celine aesthetic is at peak Philo – her garments herald the women above all. For Spring/Summer 2017 the designer debuted oversized blazers over wide-cut pants and eye-catching gowns with mismatched boots.
In particular, blue-stained white gowns stood out – with good reason. The designer took inspiration using French artist Yves Klein’s Anthropométries in which naked models – or the “living brush” – were covered in blue paint and laid upon a canvas. The show invite also included artist Dan Graham’s quote:
“I want to show that our bodies are bound to the world, whether we like it or not.”
