Watch Part 2 of Grace Neutral's Exploration of Women Challenging Beauty Standards in Brazil
“We’re not considered and seen as human beings, but as bodies that walk around.”
Having already seen part 1 of Grace Neutral and i-D’s Brazilian instalment of the “Beyond Beauty” series, we now get another look at some of the women who are challenging typical ideals of beauty and identity. From Brazilian models and activists, to a feminist rapper, these strong women share their experiences with sexual harassment and the daily hardships they face solely because of their gender.
Renowned YouTube personality Nátaly Neri of the channel Afros e Afins — who has done TED Talks and is considered a champion of the feminist movement in Brazil — even describes how women are not even considered human beings in the country, but rather bodies that walk around and are meant to be consumed. In fact, Grace narrates that a woman is assaulted every 15 seconds in São Paolo. To learn more about the women finding strength and perseverance in Brazil, watch the full video above.
