Instagram's New Feature Is an Important Stride in Mental Health
This new tool could help to save someone.
Instagram is a vast social network and today the app is launching a subtle new change that lends support to those in your circle. You can anonymously report a post to which Instagram will send said person this message:
“Someone saw one of your posts and thinks you might be going through a difficult time. If you need support, we’d like to help.”
The app will then lead to suggestions — that you contact or receive mental health support. ”These tools are designed to let you know that you are surrounded by a community that cares about you, at a moment when you might most need that reminder,” Instagram COO Marne Levine told Seventeen.
The National Eating Disorders Association and the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline were involved to ensure proper wording and appropriate prompts are enacted.
