Olivier Rousteing Says Kim Kardashian Is His Biggest Woman Crush Ever
The Balmain designer talks to Alina Cho about his ultimate muse.
At the latest instalment of Alina Cho’s interview series, The Atelier with Alina Cho, Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing shared with the host and the audience his passion for fashion design, source of inspiration, as well as Balmain’s upcoming accessories line. In particular, Rousteing names Kim Kardashian as his ultimate muse of all time:
Kim was one of the biggest crushes of my life. [At the Met Gala three years ago] she was really shy, and I was really shy, because the Met Ball is so impressive. I knew Kanye from Paris, so he introduced us, and I fell in love with her right away. She’s the woman who’s inspired me the most in my life.
The two of them have become great friends over the years. For his brand’s 2016 fall/winter collection, the designer even referenced Mrs. West’s personal style for his entire apparel range.
In addition, Rousteing touches on Balmain’s expansion into the accessories realm, stating that the collection will include a variety of bags, footwear and more. As the designer explains:
I’ve been at Balmain for five years, and now I think it has to grow. I want to make it a really big, global brand, and accessories will open the Balmain Paris world to a new crowd. I’m aware that Balmain clothes are expensive, but those who can’t afford my clothes might be able to buy Balmain accessories with really good quality. It’s important to show all kinds of people my world.
