Forever BlackJacks: K-Pop Girl Group 2NE1 Is Disbanding
CL and Sandara Park have resigned solo contracts with YG Entertainment.
It’s long been rumored but Korean label YG Entertainment announced that K-pop girl group 2NE1 is disbanding. Formed in 2009, the group, including CL, Sandara Park, Park Bom and Minzy, shot to stardom with “Fire.”
Minzy departed in April and with CL on the solo stateside-takeover the news was an unexpected, but not altogether surprising.
“2NE1’s exclusive contract expired in May 2016, and with Minzy leaving 2NE1, we have come to the decision to officially disband after extensive discussion with the remaining members. For the past 7 years, 2NE1 was a representative group of YG. We, too, cannot express how upset and disappointed we are. We decided that instead of looking forward to 2NE1’s unpredictable promotions, we should rather focus on the solo promotions of the members.”
Members CL and Dara have resigned solo contacts and Park Bom “did not have a renewal.” 2NE1 will be missed.
