'Dazed' Teams Up with Barbie to Unveil an Empowering Campaign for Women
#BarbieGirlsLikeUs.
2016 has been a remarkable year for Barbie – not only did the iconic doll debut a new range of body types and skin tones, but she also takes on impressive new jobs including game developer and the president. Now, Dazed teams up with our miniature role model to launch a week-long campaign, “#BarbieGirlsLikeUs.” Featured in the series are five inspiring women who grew up with the doll, and who have gone on to break down gender disparity in our male-dominated society.
In particular, satirical fashion magazine Mushpit’s Charlotte Brandes and Bertie Brandes discuss how their publication truly represents women’s interests. There’s also producer and DJ Throwing Shade, who shares her agenda of eliminating unhealthy competitiveness among women; and designer Mimi Wade, who created a beautiful outfit for Barbie that evokes strong femininity. Lastly, technology company co-founder Samantha Payne talks about the importance of encouraging more women into the field of science. Watch the Mollie Mills-shot teaser above to learn more about the project.
You can expect to view the entire “#BarbieGirlsLikeUs” series on Dazed‘s website soon.
