Why Gigi Hadid Wore a Poncho at Tommy Hilfiger's Show: "She's Not Quite as Thin"
Tommy Hilfiger admits to body shaming at its worst.
Gigi Hadid had her runway debut at Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall 2015 show with an oversized red poncho. Since then, Gigi’s gone on to carve out a supermodel name in the industry becoming the coveted muse to countless designers.
It seems the world’s it-model can’t escape the negative body standards in modeling. To Yahoo Style‘s Joe Zee, Tommy Hilfiger admitted: “Our casting director said, ‘She doesn’t really fit because you know she’s not quite as tall as the other girls, she’s not quite as thin.’”
The compromise was she would wear that poncho – “It covered a lot of her body unfortunately, but it received millions of hits.” Hilfiger and Hadid are still bosom collaborators, but it’s a sad reminder that skewed body perception is rampant – and covering up is not the solution.
