Sacai Shows Off Its Debut Bag Collection with Stunning Short Film
Directed by fashion visionary Craig McDean.
Having launched her first-ever bag collection earlier in October, Sacai’s Chitose Abe now interprets the new pieces via a short film directed by Craig McDean. Being the fashion visionary behind a string of iconic Jil Sander and Calvin Klein campaigns, his latest is as stunning as ever. The short clip stars models Alice Metza, Jess Picton Warlow, Kiki Willems, Lexi Boling and Binx Walton. Along with an eclectic array of banal objects such as cards, darts, a lighter and matches, a background track of urban noises provides a contrasting layer of mundaneness to a fashion film that is anything but. With garb put together by renowned stylist Karl Templer, the apparel and bags together provide a stunning look at Abe’s genius.
“My goal was to create a bag collection that distilled the spirit of Sacai and that I’d be excited to wear myself,” says Abe of the offering, which was produced with the assistance of former Marc by Marc Jacobs designer Katie Hillier. “For a woman, a bag is such an important part of her identity, so I wanted to create a collection that is an authentic expression of luxury but that brings something new to what is already a very busy category – a modern, playful version of true luxury.”
Sacai’s first-ever bag collection will drop with a worldwide release at the end of January 2017. The range will also pre-launched at its pop-up store in Selfridges on December 5.
