The ever-intelligent and outspoken Amandla Stenbergs’ been cast in the upcoming film on the Black Lives Matter movement. The film adaptation of the popular young adult novel The Hate U Give — its name taken from Tupac Shakur’s T.H.U.G. tattoo — recalls the Black Lives Matter movement. Stenberg will play 16-year-old Starr who must testify when the police shoot her unarmed best friend. No word on other details in the George Tillman Jr.-directed adaptation, but it’s expected to be one for the ages.
Be sure to also see Stenberg’s appearance in Stella McCartney’s Pop campaign.
I am so excited to announce that I will be starring in The Hate U Give, a film based on the novel by Angela Thomas inspired by Black Lives Matter. “Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg will star and George Tillman Jr. will direct the film adaptation from a script by Audrey Wells. Thomas’ story follows a 16-year-old girl named Starr who grew up in a poverty-stricken slum, but now attends a suburban prep school. After she witnesses a police officer shoot her unarmed best friend, she’s torn between her two very different worlds as she tries to speak her truth.” – @hollywoodreporter
