OFF-WHITE 2016 Fall/Winter Collection Hints At Female Empowerment
“It is my manifesto on how the modern girl doesn’t really work on convention.”
“You’re obviously in the wrong place.” This is a line you’ll find familiar if you’ve watched Pretty Woman. It is also the line that sparked the idea behind Virgil Abloh’s latest collection for OFF-WHITE. The designer made a proclamation of “how the modern girl doesn’t really work on convention.” It is about being feminine and empowered – the modern girl doesn’t need fashion, fashion needs her. Another prominent characteristic of this collection is that the the garments are designed to look expensive with less. By less, it meant changing how a piece is worn or styled. Whether it’s the reworked wardrobe basics or the jackets and coats, they looked luxurious enough to justify their price tags. To this, the OFF-WHITE designer suggested that “expensive is the biggest buzzword now,” be it in terms of attitude or objective fact. View the full collection in the gallery above
