Dame Zaha Hadid has unexpectedly died, aged 65.
The Iraqi-born British architect was the first female recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize back in 2004 and honored with the Royal Institute of British Architects’ coveted Stirling Prize in both 2010 and 2011. She received RIBA’s Gold Medal in Architecture just last year. In a statement, her company Zaha Hadid Architects said: “It is with great sadness that Zaha Hadid Architects have confirmed that Dame Zaha Hadid, DBE died suddenly in Miami in the early hours of this morning. One of the greatest visionary thinkers in history, Hadid will be remembered.
