Hello Kitty Stars in Olympia Le-Tan's 2016 Spring/Summer "Sentimental Journey" Collection
It’s not Japan without Hello Kitty.
Olympia Le-Tan has always held Japan in a special place in her heart. It is perhaps unsurprising then that when the French designer heard that the iconic Hotel Okura (her favorite hotel) was going under demolition, she decided it was time to do her Japan-inspired collection. And of course, select pieces pay tribute to Japan’s most famous feline. Carrying an appealing retro vibe, the Sanrio-influenced series features a classic Book Clutch, a circular Dizzie Bag and a lunch milk carton bag. Each piece is created with the utmost care, with illustrated velvet patches tactically placed on the base fabric and sewn by hand, featuring a range of other Sanrio characters that include My Melody and The Little Twin Stars. In contrast, the “Sentimental Journey” collection also includes bags inspired by bondage imagery by photographer Nobuyuki Araki and artist Hokusai. The collection is now available at select retailers such as Opening Ceremony and Olympia Le-Tan’s website. Sneak a peek of the collection in the gallery above.
