In the latest episode of ‘Self-Starters,’ a 5-part series by NBC Asian America that focuses on the stories of entrepreneurs in pursuit of the American dream, Lanie Alabanza-Barcena of HLZBLZ is featured and interviewed about how she created one of the most recognizable labels in women’s streetwear. Starting from humble beginnings, Lanie shares how she built her brand from hustling during lunch breaks while working at Rocawear. While her bosses rejected her designs, HLZBLZ took flight when Jay-Z scouted her designs during a meeting, which were eventually worn by pop diva Beyoncé. The interview also goes in-depth about Lanie’s personal life and how it affected and inspired her to start HLZBLZ. Watch the full interview in the video above.
