Artist Manoj Raj Documents India's Holi Festival with a Stunning Video Portrait Series
A vibrant Hindu tradition known as a springtime festival of color.
Despite garnering a reputation in the West as an excuse for a pigment-streaked party, Holi is actually an integral part of Hindu tradition and is known as a springtime festival of color. Documented on video by New Delhi-based artist Manoj Raj, he travels to the northern state of Mathura that is known as “the birthplace of Lord Krishna, where Holi is celebrated in the most wild…with sticks, shields, colors, flowers, and cannons of water.” Taking part in the two-day celebration, Raj captures beautiful portraits of Mathura residents as they bring in the spring season with vibrant festivities.
