While tattooing may be illegal in South Korea, it has not stopped thousands of artists from setting up their small studios and shops. Aside from the legal issues behind practicing tattoo art, there is also the fact that a doctor’s license is required in order to practice tattooing. In addition, having a tattoo is considered a serious taboo in South Korea and is not socially acceptable.
