Gentle Monster Presents a Stunning 'Grand Blue' Aquatic Installation in NYC Store
Dive deep.
Since the opening of its flagship store in New York, Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster has presented a unique experiential approach to interact with its customers by collaborating with artists on a seasonal installation series. Succeeding the ‘Solar Hibernation’ installation of Dutch furniture designer Moooi, glass sculptor Ivan Mora and aquarium designer Justin Muir will present the ‘Grand Blue’ installation in the back of Gentle Monster’s retail space. The elaborate piece is constructed with recycled, laminated glass that is shattered and layered to give an illusion of ocean swells and waves. Complementing the installation is a custom aquarium featuring clownfish, anemones and sand substrate from Fiji. A spokesperson from Gentle Monster expressed, “’Grand Blue’ is a vision of peace and happiness on the surface of the ocean, a place so still and calm that time becomes irrelevant. Clashing waves and a high tide frozen in time, along with sunken glasses, offer the unique experience of being deep below.” ‘Grand Blue’ will be on display from May until August 31.
