Following the previous episode of Beyond Beauty in which tattoo artist-slash-activist Grace Neutral explores the illegal tattoo scene in South Korea, she now accompanies a South Korean woman, Solji, as she reveals her massive collection of tattoos to her parents. Most of the older generations in South Korea still possess an intense aversion towards tattoos, informed by a stigma that assumes that anyone with body art is “naturally” involved in gang activities. The animosity that society has towards someone with tattoos in South Korea is so extreme that Solji claims she was once insulted and reprimanded by a random stranger while on public transport because her tattoos were exposed.
