Grimes Has Put Together an Interactive Music Installation for Moogfest
Step inside the immersive exhibition where you can manipulate the musical structure of Grimes’ “Realiti” track.
Pop music darling Claire Boucher, better known by her moniker Grimes, is known for the complete creative control that she exercises over her music. Serving as both producer and performer (and as is the case with Art Angels, audio engineer as well), it is no doubt that the Canadian artist’s vision is the truest reflection of herself. Grimes is also extremely connected with her fans, a fact that is reflected in a new installation that allows listeners to interact directly with her music. Entitled Realiti – Inside the Music of Grimes, the project will launch on May 19 at Moogfest, the annual music, art and technology festival held in Durham, North Carolina, inspired by the inventor of the Moog synthesizer, Robert Moog.
Using Microsoft’s Kinect technology, the exhibition allows visitors to fully immerse in Grimes’ “Realiti” track by manipulating its sounds and undertones within a hands-on environment. The programming technology was previously used for DELQA, an installation hosted at the New Museum with the music of artist and producer Matthew Dear as its central focus. The installation will run until from May 19 – 22. Watch the teaser video above to learn more about the showcase.
