Kehlani Gives Touching Speech About Depression and Suicide

“From me to you, you are worth it, you are perfect, and you need to be here every single day that you are meant to be here.”

On May 14, Kehlani returned to the stage for the first time since her apparent suicide attempt in March. The 21-year-old singer took a break during her Bay Area show in her hometown to deliver an incredibly moving speech about mental health and suicide prevention, a follow-up to her new track “24/7” that touches on the same topic. “It wasn’t a first-time thing and that’s not OK,” she revealed before adding, “It’s not OK for anyone, not the people around you, not the people who love you, not the people who care about you.” She then mentions that she will work with the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline as mental illness is something that is prevalent for many young people who deal with it in secret. Watch her inspirational message above.
