Shortly after ranking America’s richest self-made women, Forbes continues to highlight female empowerment by presenting its annual list of the most powerful women on the planet. “They are the smartest and toughest female business leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, scientists, philanthropists and CEOs making their mark in the world today,” explains the magazine, whose top 10 includes names from industries in which women are often the minorities, with German Chancellor Angela Merkel topping the list and Hillary Clinton coming in at second. Other industries are also reflected as fashion’s monarch Anna Wintour finds herself at No. 28, just below media mogul Oprah Winfrey at No. 21.
