Fashion Needed This Empowering Plus-Size Campaign
“The bodies don’t need to change. The attitude does.”
When diversity in fashion is addressed, it’s often in the context of race and ethnicity. A new campaign for JCPenney’s new plus-size line, “Here I Am”, reminds us that there’s more to representation than the color of the skin of models seen in ads or on the runway. Launched with the hashtag #HereIAm, the video highlights blogger and designer Gabi Fresh, author Jes Baker, Project Runway winner Ashley Nell Tipton and Grammy-nominated singer Mary Lambert, all who have struggled with body positivity and self-confidence stemming from their weight.”Would my life be better if I were thinner?” It begins. “No, but it would be better if I wasn’t treated so poorly because I’m not.” By the end, the women share their journey of learning to love themselves, exclaiming “I am beautiful. I am sexy. I am everything.”
Here’s to inclusion for all colors, shapes and sizes.
