Christophe Lemaire Joins Uniqlo for New "Uniqlo U" Line to Debut at Paris Couture Week
The ex-Hermès designer is set to be the label’s new artistic director.
Taking cues from its two previous sell-out collaboration with the ex-Hermès designer, Japanese fast fashion retailer Uniqlo has officially appointed Christophe Lemaire as artistic director for a newly established Uniqlo Paris R&D Center. The formal relationship will have Lemaire design his own line “Uniqlo U,” a new affordable range that is set to debut in early July during Paris Couture Week.
Tadashi Yanai (chairman, president and CEO of Fast Retailing, Uniqlo’s parent company) expressed, “I am delighted to welcome Mr Christophe Lemaire as a member of the Uniqlo team. I have time and again been astonished by his outstanding talent in working together to create the Uniqlo and Lemaire collection. I look forward to seeing more of the innovations that he inspires, and I am confident that his tremendous experience and talent will thrive at Uniqlo.” With the premiere collection of “Uniqlo U” hitting stores worldwide this fall, expect to see a range of “elevated basics, “as described by the designer.
