Gymnast Gabby Douglas Lands Her Very Own Barbie
She’ll be heading to the Summer 2016 Olympic Games with a little company.
Gabby Douglas successfully earned her spot on the USA Olympics Gymnastic team ahead of the 2016 games in Rio and she’ll be in great company thanks to Barbie. The Mattel company presented the 20-year-old with her very own doll, a “Shero” to honor her athletic achievements. Gabby competed in the 2012 games for the first time, where she earned gold medals for the individual all-around competition and leading the “Fierce Five” to victory — a first for a woman of color.
Barbie’s “Shero” collection celebrates female heroes who serve as role models to young girls (and also older, like ourselves). Gabby’s doll comes outfitted in a leotard inspired by her very own line, and an overall source of inspiration to us all.
