The Swoosh Presents a Full Look at Upcoming Kim Jones x NikeLab Collection
The past, present and future combine with club-kid neons and utilitarian style.
News of NikeLab’s next collaborator came back in June with the announcement that Kim Jones would create his very own capsule. Now, the Swoosh is offering a look at the range before dropping ahead of the Summer 2016 Olympics in Rio, which inspired the Louis Vuitton artistic director to create utilitarian, travel-centric pieces that offer effortless style.
Deemed the “Packable Sport Collection,” club-kid neons borrowed from old Air Max colorways establish vibrancy spread throughout the clothing, including a lightweight windrunner jacket designed from only one piece of fabric and jacquard-print knit tops. The footwear shares the same modernized aesthetic — Jones explains that his NikeLab Air Zoom LWP was derived from the retro Zoom 95 and Air Max 1, resulting in shoes that feel futuristic: “I wanted to use Nike technology so we found something old and made it into something that was very new. I didn’t want the collection to look retro. I wanted it to be modern and to speak to youth today.”
