Kirsten Dunst Makes Her Directorial Debut with 'The Bell Jar' Film Adaption
Based on Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel and starring Dakota Fanning.
Kirsten Dunst will be making her feature film directorial debut with an adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s literary classic The Bell Jar. The actress-turned-director has cast Dakota Fanning to star in her upcoming independent movie. In addition, Nellie Kim has been invited to work on the project as the scriptwriter. Based on Plath’s 1963 novel, the movie will centre around the life of Esther Greenwood, the character that Fanning will be playing. In the novel, Greenwood moves to New York City to work as an intern at a magazine, and eventually suffers from a mental breakdown when she returns to her hometown Boston. The Bell Jar is the only book ever published by Plath, and it came out the same year the author committed suicide. We will keep you updated as the production develops.
