Rihanna Says She'll Star On 'Bates Motel' in Iconic Role
She’ll play Marion Crane in the show’s final season.
On the list of the most terrifying cinematic moments of all time, the shower scene from Psycho ranks high. In it, serial killer Norman Bates viciously attacks an unsuspecting Marion Crane in the bathtub. This infamous slaying has yet to play out on A&E’s television series reboot Bates Motel, but we now know who will take on the iconic role of Crane in the show’s final season — Rihanna.
The singer made the surprise announcement on Instagram to tell Comic-Con fans, “Let me tell you what the bad bitch is about to do: I’m about to check into the Bates Motel very soon, and guess what else? Guess who’s playing Marion.”
After learning RiRi’s a big fan of the show, executive producers Carlton Cuse and Kerry Ehrin reached out to her, calling the casting “the perfect collision of creativity and fate.” And although we know Marion’s fate in the movie, they say it won’t be quite the same this time around. “We are going to meet Marion Crane, but what we don’t want to do is create the impression that we’re redoing the movie because we’re not at all,” Cuse revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “She’s a very different person in the movie and her story plays out in a different way.”
The fifth season of Bates Motel will air in 2017, and we’ll be checking in to watch for sure.
