Rimmel Has Launched a Try-On Makeup App and It's the Real Deal
Described as the “Shazam of beauty.”
With new technologies seeping into every corner of the beauty industry, the options available for augmented reality-powered apps is constantly growing. From Urban Decay’s lipstick app to Facebook’s beauty bot, the future of digital beauty is looking bright. Expanding upon the idea of enabling beauty shoppers to virtually try on products, Coty-owned cosmetics label Rimmel recently announced at a press event in London that it will be introducing its own 3D makeup simulation app, Get the Look. Described as the “Shazam of beauty,” the app allows users to take a photo of a makeup look from anywhere in their environments (whether it be a friend, a beauty editorial, or even a billboard), and then try it on for themselves. Once you virtually see the look on yourself, you can then share it via text message, e-mail or social media. In addition, a selection of Rimmel products will be suggested to you to help you achieve the look, of which you can then purchase via Google Shopping.
Although some may be wary upon first hearing of the ambitious concept, critics who tested out the app at the event were pleasantly surprised at the impressive results. For the time being, Get the Look is only available for download on iPhone and iPads in the UK App Store. However, it will be made available in other countries (including the US) in the weeks to come.
