Spice Girls' "Wannabe" Video Is Remade Into Modern Girl Power Anthem
What do YOU really, really want for girls and women…?
Twenty years after the Spice Girl’s iconic “Wannabe” revolutionized girl power, Project Everyone remade the chart-topper to empower a new generation to action against gender inequality.
“This is about modern day girl power,” said director MJ Delaney. “The Spice Girls were about a group of different women joining together and being stronger through that bond. These differences are what we want to celebrate in this film, while showing there are some universal things that all girls, everywhere, really, really want.”
The clip’s roll-call include Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez and UK R&B trio M.O. The video, backed by ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, wants to push UN’s Global Goals: an end to violence against girls, quality education for all girls, a stop to child marriage and equal pay for equal work. The world’s response to the video will be presented to the UN General Assembly in September.
