This $540 USD Xiaomi Laptop Means Serious Competition For Apple's Macbook Air
The Chinese tech giant targets budget-conscious youths.
Do you recognize Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Air? Yes, the smartphone maker’s new laptop range means war with Apple’s Macbook Air. The $46 billion USD tech giant dominated China’s mobile sector with its cheap cellulars and now turns its gaze to portable computers.
The laptop will be available in two models – an advanced 13.3-inch and cheaper 12.5-inch – to retail at $750 and $540 USD, respectively. Billionaire CEO, Lei Jun, announced:
“Apple built some great laptops, so did home-grown Lenovo. But the top laptops on the market are either light in weight or good in performance. We want make something that is both light and super-fast.”
At 2.8 pounds, the larger Mi Air is lighter than its Apple counterpart. Otherwise, we see the same metallic minimalist design. Mi Notebook Air will drop on August 2 – no word about its stateside compatibility.
