Zana Bayne's NYC Pop-Up Introduces Badass Bondage Wear to the Everyday
High-fashion debauchery for the masses.
Leather has always had its place in high-fashion, but not like this. What Zana Bayne offers toes the line of bondage wear, but the designer is de-fetishizing the S&M style and making the aesthetic easier to integrate into everyday wear. In 2009, Zana crafted a leather harness for herself to wear and thus her eponymous brand of accessories was born. Soon, her designs would be recognized on the likes of Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Lady Gaga and Beyoncé — yes, that badass cone bra from LEMONADE is indeed a Bayne original — though they are accessible to the rest of us, too. Chain-linked bras, don’t-mess-with-me chokers and rebellious bustiers for everyone.
Aside from being offered online, the brand can only be found at high-end boutiques like Dover Street Market and Opening Ceremony. But Zana and fellow creative director Todd Pendu bring their luxe debauchery to the masses via a first-ever pop-up in New York City, where everything is crafted, until July 24. Among original favorites is the new Highway Girl collection for the “pretty, smart, scornful, impatient.” In other words, all of us.
