Known for its clean silhouette and timeless aesthetic, the adidas GAZELLE has been a fan-favorite since its introduction in the 1960s. Worn by some of pop culture’s most iconic figures, the trainer has transcended all boundaries and has found its way into a dynamic range of subcultures and DIY styles that include hip-hop, skate and grunge. During the mid- to late-2000s, a burgeoning streetwear scene welcomed several high-profile GAZELLE collaborations that included releases with the likes of cult-status Japanese brands Neighborhood and Mastermind Japan. Fast forward to present day 2016 and the classic trainer still remains to be a go-to sneaker for a new generation of cultural influencers.
To capture this diversity in styles throughout time, HYPEBEAST has produced an interactive film featuring the subcultures of today who are breathing new life into the GAZELLE. Initiating an exploration of today’s global landscapes, the collaboration traverses across the world to showcase some of today’s cultural pioneers. Showcased in New York is the WAFFLE dance crew, London with music collective 808INK, and Shanghai with fashion insiders Angel Chen, Percy Lau and Alina Saveleva.
