Netflix Introduces Its First-Ever VR Video with an Insane 'Stranger Things' Experience
Riding on the popularity of its latest original series Stranger Things, Netflix takes the opportunity to introduce its first-ever VR experience using Google Cardboard. In the debut VR clip, viewers are immersed into the highly unsettling world of Stranger Things. Stepping into the Christmas lights-embellished setting of the Byers household, the journey takes you through the different parts of the home in a jaw-dropping 360 YouTube visual that culminates into a shocking finale.
“Yes, this is the first time we’ve used Google Cardboard and VR to promote a specific show (if you don’t count 360 video),” Netflix tells TechCrunch in a statement. “Stranger Things is a uniquely atmospheric series that inspired us to create a fun way to immerse viewers in the rich world, allow them to experience the thrills and mystery of the story and excite them to watch the series.” With the spellbinding approach that Netflix has taken towards exceptional storytelling, we are excited to see additional VR efforts from the streaming site. You can experience the full VR trip in the video above.
