The New Pantone Studio App Is Designed for the Color-Obsessed
It can turn your smartphone into a handy eyedropper tool that replaces Pantone’s famous chip books.
As the world becomes increasingly digital, Pantone has created a new iOS app for designers, allowing them to study color combinations and trends without physically picking up the company’s famous color-coded chip books. The new app, named Pantone Studio, includes comprehensive color guides with thousands of different hues. The app also offers pieces of research, articles and trend reports from the Pantone Color Institute’s experts. In addition, the color picker feature can transform your smartphone into an eyedropper tool that breaks down images and reveals their color composition.
“In our [market] research, we saw that designers are using mobile tools and they want their phone to be a platform for design and a hub for gathering inspiration,” states Pantone’s senior vice president Ron Potesky. He continues to explain the value of the company’s new digital creation: “If we’re not mobile, we’re not Pantone in 10 years. It’s a must for us to be important and valuable to designers.” Priced at $8 per month (or $5 each month if you opt for the annual subscription), the app can be seen as an alternative to Pantone’s chip books that are often unaffordable to many. As Potesky suggests: “We believe this is going to offer more value to the design audience and bring in a wider audience.”
