Selena Gomez Cancels 'Revival' Tour to Focus on Her Mental Health
“I have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”
Selena Gomez is taking a break to deal to with anxiety and depression – caused by her ongoing battle with Lupus.
“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have Lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways,” she told People. “I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of Lupus, which can present their own challenges.”
Selena’s been vocal about her diagnosis, telling GQ in April: “I needed time to just be okay. And I was going through leukemia [editor's note: the reporter expects she meant chemotherapy], and I went to two different locations for those treatments. It’s really frustrating, because I’m 100 percent allowed to have that.”
In the meantime her ‘Revival’ Tour will be put on hold with multiple Europe shows left. On Twitter #GetWellSoonSelena started to trend as she’s the latest singer to open up about mental health after Zayn and others.
“I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off. Thank you to all my fans for your support. You know how special you are to me, but I need to face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best. I know I am not alone by sharing this. I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues.”
