Raquel Allegra and Assembly New York Actually Balled TF Out for NYFW
Combining sports and style in the most literal sense.
The shot clock says NYFW is officially winding down — but first, Raquel Allegra and Assembly New York beat the buzzer with their joint Spring/Summer 2017 “presentation.” Sports and style are often fused together, but these two labels both got game, literally, bringing their collections to the basketball court for a NYFW match-up. The designers recruited players from the Downtown Girls Basketball Team, who wore pieces from each line while competing on the hardwood.
Raquel Allegra’s “uniforms” were far from the typical — the LA-based designer’s colorful looks were soft, flowy and feminine, and so-not stiff. Vintage silk isn’t traditionally worn in sports, but it seems just as comfortable as any jersey. Assembly New York, on the other hand, was supremely athletic. Sweatpants and long-sleeved tees worn beneath camisoles scored “NEW YORK” lettering and aptly-worn headbands. Then there were the collaborated Converse Chuck Taylors, a classic hoop shoe.
The final score at the end of the game is irrelevant — the presentation gets a W on the fun factor alone.
