The Anthony Vaccarello Debut: Saint Laurent Ushers In a New Era With Nipple
The designer’s inaugural Spring/Summer 2017 collection was sheer leather liberation.
Prior to his Spring/Summer 2017 show, Anthony Vaccarello said to Vogue:
“He [Yves Saint Laurent] did so many things, I don’t want to repeat the things he has done. It’s not about the garments, my idea of YSL lies in the attitude and how we handle things.”
Where Hedi Slimane made a mark with vintage rock ‘n’ roll, Anthony Vaccarello stands with sultry. The collection – leather and sheer – saw asymmetrical cuts and clever but ample nip slips disguised under a sheer blouse. Luxury was understated because:
“It’s about the attitude of the girl, also, it is not necessarily the clothes; you can have a luxury T-shirt and luxury jeans with some really great accessories. You can find really good clothes everywhere now. It’s the attitude. You can look cheap or you can look luxurious because [laughs] you are cheap or you are luxurious.”
Moreso the show was a lesson in attitude and rebellion. What do you think about the inaugural collection? Watch the exclusive collection preview video, directed by Inez & Vinoodh, below.
