Vetements Has a New Photo Book Coming out Soon
Join Demna Gvasalia and gang for a ‘Vetements Summercamp.’
For Vetements collective’s second photography book, Vetements Summercamp (Idea), Demna Gvasalia imagines what it would be like to spend a raucous summer at a château in Northern France. Filled with the off-kilter silhouettes and designs that the brand has become known for, the 480-page volume is filled to the brim with teenage reverie, ever so slightly laced with dark undertones of cynicism. Photographed by Pierre-Ange Carlotti, the subjects wear pieces from Vetements’ highly sought-after Spring 2017 styles.
“We wanted to shoot the clothes on the Vetements team and friends and combine it with having fun,” Demna Gvasalia (who also happens to be Balenciaga’s current artistic director) tells Vogue via email. “So we rented a house in the countryside and stayed there for two nights, cooking, playing, chatting, shooting clothes, laughing, and having loads of fun! It was a very special moment.” Among the images, you’ll also catch a glimpse of the brand’s much talked about 18-brand collaboration with Levi’s, Juicy Couture, Manolo Blahnik, Champion and more.
“It was like shooting a reality show,” mused collective photographer Carlotti. “I’ve never been in a summer camp and I don’t have a TV. Everything seemed like a fun and wet dream. Every time I do a documentary, reality seems surreal to me.”
The official launch of Vetements Summercamp will take place on October 3, 5:30 p.m. at the COMME des GARÇONS Trading Museum Paris. The tome will be exclusively available from October 4 at Dover Street Market London; New York; and Ginza, Tokyo. It will then launch at select stores worldwide from October 5, as well as online at ideanow.online.
