You Can Get a Tattoo Deisgned by Kim Gordon at the 2016 NY Art Book Fair
Attention, Sonic Youth fans and tattoo lovers alike.
Here’s a piece of exciting news for both Sonic Youth fans and tattoo lovers: you can soon get a tattoo designed by none other than Kim Gordon. To celebrate the upcoming NY Art Book Fair, the Gagosian Gallery has commissioned six artists – including Kim Gordon, Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, Devendra Banhart, Douglas Gordon, Max Hooper Schneider and Richard Wright – to create special designs that fair goers can get tattooed onto themselves if they wish. Tattoo artists from Brooklyn’s Flyrite Tattoo have been invited to the event to help visitors get inked.
The NY Art Book Fair deliberately fuses high-end names with low brow culture in hopes of creating unpredictable tattoo designs. In particular, Gordon has illustrated a chair-like object with the initials D.O, and P-Orridge has skilfully sketched a barking dog. The fair has announced that only six of each design will be inked onto willing recipients, with each of them being numbered on the skin. For those who are not considering getting a permanent tattoo, you can still take these designs back home with you by purchasing a book designed by Brian Roettinger, in which the designs will be immortalised.
Check out all the designs by browsing the gallery above. Scheduled to take place from September 15-16, the “FLASH FLASH FLASH” event will be held at the NY Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1. Head over to the Gagosian Gallery’s website for more information.
