Did Kylie Jenner Admit to Copying an Indie Makeup Artist's Work?
Kylie took to Instagram to give credit back to Vlada Haggerty.
Last year we reported that Kylie Jenner was called out by makeup artist Vlada Haggerty over plagiarizing her work on a Kylie Cosmetics Holiday 2016 campaign. The makeup artist then took action with a a copyright infringement lawsuit.
According to a statement by McArthur Law Firm who represented Haggerty:
“Vlada Haggerty is known for pioneering the dripping lip art style. This is the second time that Kylie Cosmetics has taken images without any acknowledgement and without the payment of a proper licensing fee, which amounts to copyright infringement. Additionally, Kylie Cosmetics sells its products under a logo that is so similar to the dripping lip art style that symbolizes Ms. Haggerty’s makeup artist brand that she receives daily inquires as to whether she is associated with Kylie Cosmetics. Due to Kylie Cosmetics’ repeated infringement and refusal to properly attribute or license, we plan to file a lawsuit early this week.”
Over the weekend Kylie Jenner broke the silence over the dispute with an Instagram post that acknowledged Haggerty’s work. She also encouraged everyone to go and check out the indie artist’s own account and work. It appears the litigation possibility sobered the young Jenner up to giving credit where due.
