Bad taste, but make it fashion.
With Demna Gvasalia, you should always expect the unexpected. Shortly after renewing the logo of Balenciaga, the Vetements helmer presented his Spring/Summer 2018 collection for the storied brand — one that’s “more Demna, less Cristóbal,” as the designer tells Vogue.
Off-kilter and at times humorous, the runway show was like a playful interpretation of luxury fashion. Modelled by women of different ages and skin tones, the collection saw everyday silhouettes like button-up shirts, dress pants and pencil skirts designed with a touch of edge. In true Demna fashion, denim jackets were attached to trench coats, while biker jackets were linked to vests, so you can wear them in at least two different ways.
The star of the show, however, were the platform Crocs named the “Foam.” Following in the footsteps of Christopher Kane, who continuously incorporates the controversial clog in his collections, Demna reimagined the shoe with kitschy embellishments and a hard-to-miss 10cm sole. Will this become fashion’s next most sought-after item? We’ll have to wait and find out. In the meantime, scroll through the gallery above to see the highlights of the show.
