For most of us, cooking is something that we’re forced to pick up when we leave home for college. For Kai Kani, however, being in the kitchen is something almost as natural as breathing.
For as long as she can remember, the daughter of designer Karl Kani has been fascinated by the art and science of cookery. Since making her first-ever dish at the early age of six, Kai has gone on to intern at restaurants and to create her own culinary business, hosting private events, pop-up eateries and more in her hometown, Los Angeles. Even Oprah — yes, the Oprah Winfrey — has been one of her many clients.
The 17-year-old has recently curated a special “HYPEBAE Brunch” menu for us. While showing us how to make the perfect french toast, Kai candidly discusses why cooking means so much to her, and what it’s like to find her way in a male-dominated industry. Watch our exclusive video above to learn more about the prodigy chef.
