First Gigi Hadid, Now Katy Perry Backs Out from Victoria's Secret Fashion Show
The singer is reportedly banned from China indefinitely.
After news broke that Gigi Hadid has dropped out of the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, it’s reported that Katy Perry will no longer perform at the Shanghai extravaganza.
According to Page Six, the “Swish Swish” songstress has failed to apply for a visa after being denied by Chinese officials to enter the country. “For every artist who wants to perform in China, officials comb through their social media and press reports to see if they have done anything deemed to be offensive to the country,” a source explains to the publication.
While Perry was initially granted a visa to China, things changed apparently after the government has learned that the singer wore a sunflower dress and a Taiwanese flag during a 2015 performance in Taipei. At the time, many interpreted Perry’s outfit choice as a form of support for the Sunflower Student Movement and had sparked controversy in China.
Perry has been replaced by Harry Styles to perform at the runway show.
