No Female Directors Were Nominated For the 2018 Golden Globes

The 2018 list of Golden Globe nominees has just been announced, featuring all the most talked about pictures, TV shows and entertainers of the year, including titles like The Greatest Showman, I, Tonya and Stranger Things. After the full list was announced, people were quick to point out the lack of diversity among the nominees, as well as the fact that not a single female was nominated for the category of “Best Director.”

Female directors like Greta Gerwig, Dee Rees and Patty Jenkins, who directed some of the biggest motion media pictures of the year, were absent from the list. Only seven times in the past 75 years has a woman been nominated in the category, proving a huge lack of diversity. It was also pointed out that the nominees didn’t include many people of color, with all 15 of the “Best Actress” nominees being white.
