Take a First Look at Gucci and Dapper Dan's New Harlem Studio Atelier
Featuring custom-made designs.
Dapper Dan and Gucci unveiled news today that a studio atelier and storefront will be opening in Harlem.
An homage to the designer’s original Dapper Dan’s Boutique comes twenty five years after the shop closed. The storefront will provide fashion lovers the opportunity to get custom pieces. Gucci raw materials, prints, embroidered patches and even hardware will be options for customization. The special project is approximately 4,700 square feet and features an area for on-site production, the atelier will be “by appointment only.”
In the African-American fashion community, Dan is a well-respected designer who is well known for creating clothing for hip-hop artists, athletes and more. The ”call out” conversation surrounding the Gucci Resort 2018 collection look that was strikingly similar to an exclusive counterfeit jacket he previously crafted for Olympian Diane Dixon is worth noting.
In a press release Dan shared:
“The people have spoken and Gucci has listened. Nothing has been more significant in the Harlem cultural scene than Alessandro and Gucci coming to Harlem and partnering with Dapper Dan.”
The custom pieces will be available at the new atelier on the iconic Lenox Avenue and opens in January 2018. Check out the inside of the atelier in the gallery above.
