Ride With Nora Vasconcellos, adidas’ First Female Pro Skater
She’s making skate a women’s sport too.
Males have long run the skateboarding industry but 2017 saw a push back whereby the very word “skate,” turned into something a little more homogenous. Females skate crews like The Brujas, and riders like Nora Vasconcellos, have made it clear that it’s a girls sport too – with new backing by brands.
adidas inducted Vasconcellos into the Pro skate team earlier in the year, and is dedicating a new, digital short to honor the icon. On her documentary she noted:
“To be riding alongside the guys I have always admired is unreal. I think it’s very important for young girls (and boys) to see a woman alongside men in any profession.”
Vasconcellos’ story is a personal narrative in normalizing the sport, unapologetic and authoritative. The short also includes interviews with Pros, Lacey Baker and Sage Elsesser, and legends, Elissa Steamer and Andrew Reynolds.
“Nora” releases on December 21 at adidas Skateboarding. Watch the teaser below and our own BTS interview above.
