Watch 81 of Fashion's Biggest Faces Share Powerful Statement Against the Refugee Ban
“I am an immigrant.”
One of the biggest trends to come out of fashion week’s runways have less to do with the actual clothes, but with the sentiment behind the shows themselves. Following what was a vehement election season, politics became chief inspiration for designers — Demna Gvaslia of Balenciaga, Jonathan Simkhai, Maria Grazia Chiuri of Dior, Public School’s Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, as well as Kenzo’s Carol Lim and Humberto Leon are just a few who made some sort of charged assertion.
Now some of those aforementioned names are asserting their statement, alongside more of the most biggest names in fashion, as a response to President Donald Trump’s recent ban on refugees. 81 designers, models, editors, photographers and more — counting the likes of Jourdan Dunn, Winnie Harlow, photography duo Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and Diane von Furstenberg — share a simple, yet forceful message: “I am an immigrant.” Watch the video from W above.
