COMME des GARÇONS Pushes Forward Into the Future in 2017 Fall/Winter Collection
“The Future of Silhouette.”
Continuing with the futuristic theme of Paris Fashion Week, Rei Kawakubo presents her vision of clothing without form. It’s clear that there was no limit in mind when Kawakubo dreamt up the amorphous shapes, each having their own distinct material, shape and feel. Mostly unrecognizable as clothing, some looks featured no armholes while others had pronounced appendages that seemed to consume the wearer. Models walked the runway in an unorganized daze bumping into one another, highlighting the various mediums used including recycled fabrics, lace, and even paper bags.
Also debuting new footwear, we get a preview of the COMME des GARÇONS x Nike Lunar Epic Flyknit collaboration which is topped with a FENTY-like bow. These bulbous pieces of art will also be featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in May for Kawakubo’s career retrospective.
