Penelope Cruz Replaces Lady Gaga to Play Donatella Versace in 'American Crime Story'

The actress will make her first regular appearance in a TV series.

Last fall, it was reported that Lady Gaga would play Donatella Versace in the upcoming third season of American Crime Story, which centers around Gianni Versace’s murder by serial killer Andrew Cunanan. However, the show’s executive producer Ryan Murphy clarified earlier this year that the Joanne artist will not be participating in the series. Now then, who’s going to replace Gaga to become the female lead?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Penelope Cruz has confirmed to take on the role of Gianni’s sister, Donatella. Joining actors Edgar Ramirez and Darren Criss, the Oscar-winning actress will make her first regular appearance in a television series.

The ten-episode Versace: American Crime Story is due out in 2018. Stay tuned for updates as the production of the show begins.
